Beach Ball games...with a twist!

We're having a ball - beach ball - in our own backyard!  After smacking the ball around the yard a few times with my boys, a great stress reliever for sure, I decided to put an educational twist to our games.  I know, I know...could I be less cool?  But hey, it changed things up and might help the brains from going to mush this summer!

Grab a few beach balls & a black Sharpie,
and mark up those beach balls!

Our games:

Numbers:  whatever two numbers your hands land on, add them up!
Shout the number out as you pass the ball.

5W's & H:  who, what, when, where, why, & how
I used this with students to see if they'd read the book I'd assigned:)
This makes a good way to discuss a book - have an outdoor book club!
Or, have you kids make up a question at a time!
Whatever word their hand is on is what they say before they pass the ball.

Ice Breaker:  Having a backyard party?
Write get-to-know-you questions:
hobby, hometown, favorite movie, etc...

For toddlers: I just had my little guy holler out the colors his hands touched.

"In summer, the song sings itself."
(William Carlos Williams)

Hope you have a ball!
We celebrated with popsicles
on our hammock!
