Homemade Granola Bars

My mom has made these delicious homemade granola bars since I was a kid.  I love her recipe, and I love having these bars ready for an easy snack or for breakfast.  Mom uses almost an identical recipe to make homemade granola cereal (minus the egg and milk).  Click here for the granola cereal recipe.


To make the granola bars:

Bake 6 cups of old fashioned oatmeal for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.




While the oats are baking, stir together the following:
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup coconut (optional)
Next stir the above mixture into the baked oats.





Mix together the following, then stir into dry ingredients:
2/3 cup honey
2/3 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla extract (sometimes I use almond)
1/3 cup milk
one beaten egg








Press into pan and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
