Fruit of the Spirit Fruit Pizza - dessert

One of the most reviewed scriptures at our house is Galatians 5:22 - the fruits of the Spirit.  We (as in ME!) need constant reminding of the nine fruits.  We recently kicked off a Fruit of the Spirit challenge with a Fruits of the Spirit fruit pizza.  Tasty, and an easy way to explain the fruits of the spirit to our younger kids.

I like to use the book 9 Fruits Alive (by Mindy MacDonald) because of the simple, yet meaningful text, and the three dimensional fruits that leap off the pages.  My kids love this book.

Fruit of the Spirit Fruit Pizza
1 1/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Whip butter, sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla or almond extract.  Add dry ingredients and mix well.  Make individual cookies, or press cookie dough in sheet cake pan (we used a heart pan to symbolize love).  Bake cookies for 10 minutes (bar/heart pan for 18-20 mins) at 375 degrees.

Cream cheese frosting
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 pound bag of powdered sugar
8 ounce block of cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
3 tablespoons whipping cream or whole milk

Because we kicked off our Fruit of the Spirit Challenge with sharing our recent love experiences (how we've experienced love  - giving and receiving), we used a heart cake pan instead of a sheet cake pan.

We typically use fruits in season.  Our fruits for this pizza:  bananas, strawberries, oranges, grapes, pineapples, apples, pears, plums, and peaches.  We let each kid add their fruits to their pizza slice.

Of course, there is always one kid who would like his fruit beside his pizza, instead of on top...

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law."
(Galatians 5:22-23)

  1. I love your post, and would love to try this at home and at one of my future Storytime Fridays! May I borrow your book, or could you tell me where you purchased it? Blessings to you, sweet Melanie!
