Gratitude Cards - Thanksgiving activity

While the turkey is smoking and the stuffing is baking, our family makes gratitude cards to share at our Thanksgiving dinner.  Cheesy, according to one of my brothers...but who cares?  Sometimes a little cheese is good, especially for all the tough guys in my life.  I give everyone enough note cards to write a message to everyone in the family.  The younger kids draw pictures.  One year I gave everyone an envelope to put their cards in so they'd have an easy way to take them home.  This year I think we'll just hand everyone their cards after we share them.  I've seen people punch holes in the cards and string them up with ribbon to make a garland to hang. To me the point is just sharing how much we care about each share why we are thankful.  I'm thankful for an unscheduled day.  A day set aside to just be with family...and eat a heck of a lot of pie!

My third grade son woke up early this morning and wrote his cards on large sheets of card stock.  He loves to make up jokes, so of course he wrote a few for his grandparents.  We googled Thanksgiving jokes and found a few jokes to add to our family joke book (click here for the joke book post).

What are you thankful for today?

Happy Thanksgiving!
