Bedtime Routine Picture Schedule for kids

Our bedtime routine can compare to herding cats,
so I decided to make a picture schedule to help us end the day on a good note.  My muscle man and I sometimes feel like we just ran a marathon after finishing bathtime...but this schedule has helped keep the kids on task.   Whoo hoo...

My sons' preschool teachers used schedules with cute cartoon pictures that were attached to velcro boards.  When I taught high school I posted a schedule because I think students respond much better with a visual cue.

Using Publisher, I inserted pictures of my kids going about our bedtime routine.  I used pictures so my two youngest kids, who don't read, could participate too.

I laminated them so the kids could check it off as they go.  We hang these clipboards on a hook in their room overnight so they see them in the morning...a friendly, colorful reminder to rise and shine!  My kids carry them down to breakfast and have a hook to hang them on when they head out the door.

I got so excited about these that I made three more for our after-school, dinner, and morning routines.  Click below for the other three schedules:

"A schedule defends from chaos and whim.
It is a net for catching days.
It is a scaffolding on which a worker can stand
and labor with both hands at sections of time."
(Annie Dillard)
