Gooey oat and rice krispie bars

Instead of buying granola bars, we make these oat and rice krispie bars
(saw the recipe in a magazine at the grocery store - I think Taste of Home).

Less preservatives, cheaper, and oh so much better!

Oat & Rice Krispie Bars
2 1/2 c. rice cereal
2 c. old-fashioned oats
1/4 c. toasted wheat germ
1 c. light corn syrup
1 c. peanut butter (we use creamy)
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine cereal, oats, and wheat germ, and set aside.  In small saucepan, combine corn syrup, peanut butter, and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat until peanut butter melts.  Remove from heat.  Stir in vanilla and pour over dry ingredients.  Mix well and press into 9x13 or jelly roll pan.  Ready to eat in about 15 minutes, or less, if you live in my house!

"I like vending machines,
because snacks are better when they fall.
If I buy a candy bar at the store,
oftentimes I will drop it
so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential."
 (Mitch Hedburg)

"We are indeed much more than what we eat,
but what we eat can nevertheless help us to be
much more than what we are."(Adelle Davis)
